It’s Christmas! It’s Travelling Season!

The air of the month of December seems different from that of the other months. The moment it is December, the conversations, gist and chats tend to revolve around shopping and travelling i.e., when are you shopping for Christmas? Will you travel? When are you travelling? Where will you travel to? And so on. Many people travel in this month while some do not. Before the month of December, those who will travel for Christmas already know and must have planned towards it while to some, their decision comes later. Christmas season is the time when most people travel to visit family and friends far and near. In Nigeria, the Igbos, who occupy the Eastern part of Nigeria but live outside their home towns see this season as a season to go back home and celebrate with their extended family, attend their cultural festivals and contribute to the development of their communities. Travel arrangements are required if one must have a blissful journey. Whether you are travelling by Road or by Air, this is to bring to your devices, 16 tips for your Christmas and other travels you may want to embark on.

Travelling by Road? Here are the tips:

1. Decide on your choice of vehicle but chose wisely. Don’t go for too cheap vehicles to avoid disappointments. Transport companies with many fleets are recommended for those in Nigeria e.g. Peace Mass Transit Ltd, State transport companies, etc.

2. Book Ahead of time if you can. Book with transport companies that are online for booking, as it will help you save time and plan ahead.

3. Ask God for journey mercies and endeavor to set out early on the day of your journey to avoid the stress of getting stuck in the hold up or getting late to your destination.

4. Eat and drink little if you are the type that gets easily pressed to avoid the embarrassment of having to stop the driver at odd places to ease yourself.

5. If you have too much baggage you can send them earlier through courier so that you can travel light and safe.

6. Chose smart wears that can give you enough freedom to relax and enjoy your journey

7. Relax with an interesting book or music; feel free to chat with your travelling companions. Only you can turn your journey to a memorable adventure.

8. Make sure you always travel with a diary where you have your important phone numbers written down and make sure your handset is charged.


Travelling by Air? Here are some tips:
9.    Pray and chose the airline that you trust. If within Nigeria, you can go for Air peace,  Arik Air or any other airline of your choice; but if your are coming to Nigerian from another country, you can go for Ethiopian Air or any other airline of your choice

10.                        Book your flight early to save cost

11.  Make sure to purchase travel insurance that will cover you in case of any misfortune during your trip; like medical issues, flight delays or cancellations, lost baggage, etc.

12. Ship your gifts or heavy luggage ahead of time to avoid being burdened by them around. Pack the things you must need ahead of time before travelling.

13.Pray to God for journey mercies and make sure you get to the airport at least 30 minutes before departure time to enable you organize yourself well and to avoid rush.

14.Take with you a good reading material to avoid boredom

15. Keep important and emergency information handy like hotel phone numbers, car rental company numbers, a doctor’s number, etc.

16.Know your rights. In the case of overbooked airline whereby a passenger has to be rebooked, the passenger is entitled to be compensated for such inconvenience and disappointment.
