TRUMP’S VULGAR WORDS, WHAT THE WISE WILL RATHER DO

The comment made by US President, Donald Trump in reference to Africans and few other immigrants has been on media and has continued to stir anger as Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) and some other African countries has been lashing out at Trump in defense of their dignity.

It is uncalled for, that such discriminatory and derogatory statement should proceed from the mouth of the President of one of the Super Power countries in this 21^st century. If the insult was just about dwindling growth and development, it would have been easy to swallow, but the fact that Trump’s insult insinuates that some skin colours and appearances are disgusting, reduces his reputation as the president of the United States.

It was gathered that President Trump balked an immigration deal that would include protections for people from Haiti and some nations in Africa, demanding to know at a White House meeting why he should accept immigrants from “shithole countries” rather than from places like Norway.  He made those statements during a discussion of an emerging bipartisan deal to give legal status to immigrants illegally brought to the United States as children. According to people with direct knowledge of the conversation, he prefers people who are completely whites to come into America rather than blacks and mixed up countries.

If Trump had meant to protect American citizens from foreigners by making it difficult for all foreigners to US to get a Visa, it would have been a commendable thing to do as a president because it is the duty of a president to protect his citizens from strangers whose intentions are not known, but in this case, it is a xenophobic statement. The entire world expects Donald Trump to be more responsible, but in any case, human will always be human, but we need to read the times and grow up. At least, that is what our God expects us to do.

The fact remains that Trump has made vulgar statements against Africans and will not take back his words even if he apologizes. With the look of things, if he sees another opportunity, he will still use such vulgar statements. I have been wondering, if Africans or Nigerians had managed their resources well and used them for growth and development, will Nigeria stoop so low to worship America to the extent that it will share in such vulgar statements? If our president who should be protecting and promoting his country can make statements while speaking in a foreign land, that suggest that Nigerians are criminals, then, I think Trump’s offence is not that grave after all. In fact I feel like commending him to an extent for holding his country to a high esteem. African leaders especially Nigeria should strive for growth and development in order to stand out among the developed nations.

It is normal for us to react to Trump’s vulgar statements but as we fret over it, we need to do what the wise will rather do. The anger from the provocation should drive us into breaking away from mediocrity and becoming the best. Who said that Nigeria or one of the African countries cannot be a super power, capable of attracting the other super powers? Trump’s vulgar words can be a vehicle to a wiser and better Africans, if we can ride on it.

Trump's Recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel: Nigeria's Opinion

There has been an overwhelming global controversy following Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel; while some people think that he took a wrong step that will obstruct the movement of peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians, others think that Trump’s declaration will promote world peace. Judging by the world events, do we think that this world peace is attainable? I have searched the Book of Prophecy and found that it is recorded nowhere that world peace is possible in our present world. It does not matter whether Israel’s capital is in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.

According to President Donald Trump: “After more than two decades of waivers, we are no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians; it would be folly to assume that repeating the exact same formula would now produce a different or better result.”

It is better for us to always look out for new ways of solving our problems and try new things; been mindful, not to challenge or obstruct the ways of The Almighty God, and learn from the results or outcomes than to repeat the same thing over and over again.

Meanwhile, according to Vanguard Newspaper, read below what Nigeria has to say in the ongoing controversy.

Nigeria has expressed great concern about the situation in many parts of the Middle East and called for the peaceful resolution of the protracted conflicts between Israel and Palestinian.

“Obviously, the current situation does not offer a sustainable solution to the Question of Palestine.

“Indeed, it is creating despair among the people of Palestine and causing anxiety among the people of Israel,’’ Amb. Olukunle Bamgbose, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said.

He delivered Nigeria’s statement at the UN General Assembly ‘Debate on Question of Palestine and the Situation in the Middle East.’

“Nigeria calls on all parties to make genuine efforts to find peaceful solutions and to cooperate closely with the UN and its relevant agencies accompanying them to realize this objective.

“As the international community continues to seek avenues to advance peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question, international efforts remain focused on paving the way for Israel and Palestine to return to meaningful negotiations. “It is a situation that has reverberation around the region and even beyond.

“Nigeria believes that achieving a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement of the question of Palestine is imperative for the attainment of durable peace and stability in the Middle East”.

Nigeria expressed pleasure at the statement by the Quartet envoys of Sept. 28, 2017, which welcomed the efforts of the Palestinians to create the conditions for the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities in Gaza. The Quartet stressed the importance of close and continuing coordination of all efforts to achieve the common goal of the two-state solution in line with UN resolutions and international laws.

“We also acknowledge the outcome of the Paris Conference held on Jan. 15, 2017, at which 70 countries and international organizations reaffirmed their support for the two-state solution.” Nigeria said the international community must remain undaunted in its commitment towards finding lasting and sustainable solutions as the conflict continued to pose a threat to international peace and security. The country also urged all parties to show more commitment to making peace a reality.

Nigeria warned that “all unilateral actions that have turned hope into confrontation, including settlement activities, violence and inciting violence must stop”. “Nigeria would like to see a genuine effort on the part of Israeli and Palestinian leaders to return to the negotiating table. “We believe that there are numerous specific actions that are necessary to foster mutual respect and compromise, build confidence and pave the way for the realization of the two-state solution.

“In this regard, Nigeria encourages Israel to take concrete measures to freeze all settlement-related activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. “On their part, Palestinian leaders must also signal their readiness to return to the negotiating table by making enhanced efforts to forge unity and deal with militancy and other internal security challenges.” Nigeria said it was beyond doubt that neither military might nor militancy would resolve the protracted conflict.

“We encourage both sides to take concrete steps to return to negotiations on the basis of the relevant UN resolutions, the Quartet road map, the Madrid principles, the Arab Peace Initiative and the relevant agreements between them. “Nigeria supports the efforts of the international community towards establishing an environment conducive to a return to meaningful negotiations to end the occupation and resolve the long-running conflict.” U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has further heightened tensions between the two nations and in the Middle East.
